Hello everyone
I have a dozen flights on my version of the Laser type and things are progressing well. Running a Whirlwind 200AC in front of a straight valve ECI Titan IO360 with a Superior cold air intake. I had the prop dynamically balanced but I'm still getting a shake in the airframe. My...

Slightly concerning as I've just put down a deposit on a 200AC for my Laser. What engine mounts are you guys using?
Please let me know how you guys get on diagnosing these issues.
Many Thanks
Beside this issue, The propellers are awesome and overpass the mt or any similar propeller...

What you guys are having on speed? Mine used to indicate 160mph, but with all mods I've done now it shows 190mph 25/2500 at 4000ft.

Hello All
In the next few weeks i'll begin making the buck and then mould for the top cowling and turtle deck on my Lazer Z200 project.
I was wondering if you guys have any experience doing this. Most specifically i'm interested in hearing peoples experiences with layups. Or suggestions on what...

Hi
Your cowling looks great!
I've just started looking at the cowl that i have but have spotted a few issues.
The cowling is not symmetrical at all. Most noticeable at the firewall end where one of the cheeks protrudes further than than the other.
The engine mounting has the 1.5 degree...

So I recently bought a laser200 and when I tried to get the policy switched in my name they said the airplane is not insurable through them? Has anybody had anything similar? And what do you guys have for insurance? Or is it because I have a one off airplane varying from the traditional laser?

Nice looking Laser you have there!
It think I'm seeing 2 mods: Low wing and Whitman rod landing gear.
To my thinking, the Laser is more of a concept than a fixed aircraft design. No two are exactly the same.
They started as a mod to the Stephen's Akro? and have moved on in the form of Extra,...

I thought a section on some of the technical aspects might be a good idea, so here it goes...
When I first got my Laser I went through it all which took a year, well almost all, I'm currently digging into the ailerons deeper than before.
It's always good practice with a new acro...

Hi All
Does anyone have the non symmetrical 21012 airfoil? How does it fly compared to a fully symmetrical?
Thanks
Last post
If you overlay profiles of the 0012 and the 21012 you will not see much difference. We bought a wing kit with ribs already cut but modified them by shaving a couple of mm (from memory that's all it was) off to give us a symmetrical wing although not exactly a 0012 (also note that near the root the...

Hey guys, just got a set of plans for the laser and am eager to get started. Figure because this is a new forum I'd give a little background about myself. I'm 19 years old living in the great state of arizona, I started flying at 14 and got my license at 17. I'm currently a CFII/MEI instructing to...

I'm pretty sure it's because I tried to learn to weld with a welder that had lift start and had a thumb wheel for amp control instead of HF start and a foot pedal. It made controlling the arc very difficult and made it nearly impossible to get the right amperage for the thin tail ribs

I recently had some excitement while practicing snaps with my canopy, it popped open and jammed... I had my cell phone with me and was able to get a hold of neighbor to push the canopy back into the track so I could get out. If you have a tip-over canopy you won't have to worry about this one.

Very nice, thanks for this. This will certainly help someone out there. Also it will help me as we are discussing canopy options on my build.

Hi everybody
some months ago i bought a disassembled Akro to restore it. it was a standard Akro with 23012 wing section (1st flight 1972) with some mods introduced in the 1980s, like high turtledeck and a bit of increase in wing section near the centerline (picture attached).
i plan to make some...

The cowlings/canopy/instrument panel I have are smaller, basically inside the fuselage longerons and I think I will keep them as they are now otherwise there are too many things to change

I just got a set of York Laser Z-2300 plans for Christmas... :D
I've been 'shopping around' for the next acro ship beyond my RV-8. I really like the low wing Giles, Staudacher, Panzl variants. Kinda spendy compared to a Laser 200, but quality has a value all it's own...and these are mostly unique...

There is a Laser 200 low wing out there flying and I've heard of low wing 2300 under construction.

Hi Guys, great new forum.
I'm rebuilding a crash damaged Laser 200 G-VILL, early stages, just trying to get a plan together.
Want to build as light as a can as i don't have the money for a big power engine.
Any way of posting pictures without having to host through another image site?
Thanks...

Glass Fiber Wing Top Layer

Hi Guys
I've got some repairs to do on my wing and have noticed that it has a glass layer on top of the ply... this isn't in the original plans but i'm guessing it does a pretty good job of stiffening the wing up!
I think this is also done on the one designs? Does anybody else have this on their...

Hi
I started the restoration of a Stephen Akro and I plan to cover the wing with a bidirectional cloth of fiberglass in order to increase the stiffness particularly in torsion (you know the flutter problem of the Akro)
I didn't perform any assessment yet but according to a friend of mine who did...

Hi Guys
Just wondering what tailwheel set ups are available.
My aircraft used to have a leaf spring set up which looks heavy.
I've seen several aircraft with a rod type tail gear which looks much lighter and less draggy.
does anyone have any details on this setup? what sort of tube or rod is...

It might make a difference if you operate off of hard surface or grass.
My Laser went from hard surface to sandy grass. I felt the < 4 tailwheel on the Haigh would be more of a plow on our runway.

I changed the tires of my Laser 300 to the 4.00x5 lamb tires and to the small 3.5 inch tailwheel to save weight.
When I flew the plane with the old tires, didn't like the aircraft attitude since it was to easy to do a 3 pointer (I am more of a wheels landing guy). Visibility was awsome, one of the...

I've seen Lasers with different main landing gear lengths. Ours had tall gear, one I flew a little while back was much shallower deck angle.
The longer gear for the S-2A was to provide ground clearance for the aileron spades under the lower wing. My S-2A was an earlier SN to which the previous...
