Giles Constructed with Mods

Post by pitts01 » Fri Sep 02, 2016 2:08 pm

hi,

I have an option on a Giles 202 that has had all the critical modifications built into it, not a retrofit..... Built by a reputable carbon aircraft company....

Would you consider a Giles given the mods been done at build time? Why do i still have a bit of an uneasy feeling..

thanks
Stuart

The Giles guru is Eric at Bully Aero - (336) 263-8558 - If I were considering a Giles, he would be doing the pre-buy

Agree with the above.....as a past 202 owner I like you would be very nervous bout the mount till someone such as Eric had addressed the issues relating to it !

I don't think it is necessary for the work to be done during the build. The modification that Eric (BullyAero) has developed can be done just as well on a finished airplane. Once we see the accident report it may be that the modification is not necessary but I do know it addresses what I see as a weak spot in the design (personal opinion here.) If I owned a flying 202 I would, at a minimum, be keeping a close eye on the tail (inside and out) until we know more about Andrews failure. There is a good chance that the failure mode was specific to his airplane (these are armature built), but the meantime I would be in touch with Eric about the modification.
